Walk for the Planet: Green Ponta Action Rewards Your Steps with Points and Purpose

Green Ponta Action is Japan’s eco-conscious walking app that rewards your daily steps with regular Ponta Points. By hitting 5,000 steps, you unlock lottery tickets that guarantee at least 1 point, with chances to earn more through streaks and eco-missions. Easy to set up with Apple Health or Google Fit, the app integrates seamlessly into the Ponta ecosystem, letting you spend points at Lawson, GEO, and more. Perfect for users who want every step to benefit both themselves and the planet.

This is the third installment in Points & Miles Japan’s series on shopping points-linked walking apps. After exploring Rakuten Healthcare and d-healthcare, we now turn to Green Ponta Action, a unique app that not only rewards your steps with Ponta Points but also ties your activity to environmental initiatives. It’s a program that blends personal wellness, shopping rewards, and sustainability—making every step count for both you and the planet.

How Users Earn Points: Green Ponta Action motivates users to walk daily by setting step goals and rewarding them with Ponta Points. The app tracks your movement via smartphone sensors and issues points once you hit milestones:

  • Daily Step Goals: Typically set at 5,000 steps per day. Meeting this goal earns you a lottery ticket that guarantees at least 1 point.

  • Minimum Daily Points: 1 point (from the lowest lottery outcome).

  • Maximum Daily Points: Several points per day, depending on lottery results and streak bonuses. Users who consistently meet goals can accumulate more tickets, increasing their chances of higher rewards.

  • Eco-Missions: In addition to walking, the app sometimes offers “green challenges” (such as consecutive walking streaks or participation in eco-campaigns), which yield bonus points.

This structure makes Green Ponta Action similar to Rakuten Healthcare in its lottery-based reward system, but with the added dimension of environmental impact.

Type of Ponta Points: The app awards regular Ponta Points, not limited-time promotional ones. This is a major advantage, as regular points can be used across the entire Ponta ecosystem—covering Lawson convenience stores, GEO rental shops, KFC, and many other retail partners. Limited-time points would expire quickly, but regular points give users flexibility to save and spend at their convenience.

Account Setup Procedure. Getting started with Green Ponta Action is straightforward:

  1. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play.

  2. Log in with your Ponta ID (or create one if you don’t already have an account).

  3. Enable step tracking:

    • On iOS, link the app with Apple Health.

    • On Android, connect it to Google Fit.

  4. Grant permissions for motion tracking and notifications.

  5. Start walking—once you hit 5,000 steps, you’ll earn your first lottery ticket.

The app also integrates with Ponta’s broader loyalty system, so your earned points appear directly in your Ponta account and can be used immediately at partner stores.
