Points and miles collection in Japan for the non-Japanese.

How to Earn ANA Miles in Japan Using Shopping Points

Learn how to earn ANA miles in Japan much faster by converting your Rakuten Point, V-Point, and nanaco shopping points into airline rewards—even without flying.

Collecting frequent flyer miles in Japan isn’t as straightforward as it is in most other countries—especially when it comes to All Nippon Airways (ANA). Flights and credit card spending alone won’t get you to that award ticket fast enough.

But here’s the good news: Japan’s loyalty ecosystem offers a few powerful shortcuts. Instead of relying on your credit card, you can earn ANA miles by converting shopping points from everyday purchases.

Here are three point programs that can help you reach your ANA Mileage Club goals faster:

1. Rakuten Point

Rakuten is one of Japan’s largest online marketplaces, and its point system is surprisingly versatile. You earn Rakuten Points through shopping, travel bookings, and even mobile services. These points can be transferred to ANA miles through the Rakuten Point Club, though you’ll need to link your ANA account first.

Tip: Rakuten often runs bonus campaigns. Watch for “double point” days to maximize your earnings.

2. V-Point (formerly T-Point)

V-Point is accepted at thousands of stores across Japan, including FamilyMart, Tsutaya, and Yahoo! Shopping. You can convert V-Points to ANA miles via the T-Point to ANA transfer portal, but note that the conversion rate isn’t 1:1, so timing and volume matter.

Tip: Use your V-Point card or app consistently at checkout to build up points faster.

3. nanaco Point

nanaco is the loyalty program for Seven & i Holdings, which includes 7-Eleven, Ito-Yokado, and more. You can earn nanaco Points through purchases and promotions, and transfer them to ANA miles through the nanaco member portal.

Tip: Preloading your nanaco card and using it for payment often earns extra points.

Most of these websites and transfer portals are in Japanese. If you’re not fluent, installing a reliable automatic translator plug-in—like Google Translate or DeepL—will make the process much smoother.
