Best Western in Okinawa: Onna vs. Kouki, Which Beachfront Stay Wins?

Two Best Western hotels in Okinawa, two very different experiences. BW Onna offers a quiet, semi-exclusive beachfront stay with a pool and diving nearby, but requires a car for dining and shopping. BW Kouki delivers convenience with a longer beach, jet ski rides, a ground-floor convenience store, and easy access to buses and restaurants. Whether you’re after tranquility or accessibility, this honest comparison helps you decide which Best Western fits your Okinawa adventure best. Your perfect island stay might just be here.

I’ve had the chance to stay at both of Okinawa’s Best Western properties—first at BW Okinawa Onna Beach Hotel in Kunigami back in March 2024, and then more than a year later at BW Okinawa Kouki Beach Hotel in Nago, right in time for summer. Two trips, two hotels, and two very different vibes.

Both hotels share some great basics: they’re beachfront, every room comes with a guaranteed ocean view, and the rooms are spacious—some even with kitchenettes. Breakfast is included at both, which is always a win when you’re traveling.

But here’s where they start to differ. BW Onna is smaller, with just three floors, and its beach feels semi-exclusive and quiet. It even has a swimming pool, which adds to the relaxed atmosphere. The catch? Dining and shopping options nearby are limited. The closest izakaya is a 20-minute walk, and the nearest supermarket requires a car.

BW Kouki, on the other hand, is bigger and busier, with 11 floors and direct access to Nago Beach. The beach is longer, and water activities like jet skiing are available. Kouki also wins on convenience: there’s a convenience store right on the ground floor, airport buses stop nearby, and restaurants serving Okinawan cuisine are just steps away. It’s no surprise Kouki is priced higher—it’s simply more accessible, especially for solo travelers or those relying on public transport.

So, which one’s better? Honestly, it depends on your style. If you want peace and quiet, and you’re driving, BW Onna is perfect. If you want convenience, activities, and easy access without a car, BW Kouki is the way to go.
